A Little Light...
Witches all knew the story of how Aine sprang force from the Void as the first light and created the races known as witches. While the Void had inhabits of its own once it was nothing becoming a single conscious that became more and more and Aine light was nourished by it something different and she created the physical world of Asmiara and that first race. Creating special concepts given human form to guide them they in turn created other races and the world grew. While some of the exact details of the past were lost and reclaimed with time. It was true that Aine created witches and the creative concepts that created other races and the world grew,
It was however also true that twelve not six clans were made and half honored the destructive concepts beings created by the Void some might even say apart of him. This fact was lost due to a great war when the creative concepts died and history was buried to save those that remained. Thus it was believed that six main clans were in charge of which the Devry was apart of. They were one of three clans known as the three most powerful though the triat as it was called changed over the years it was the Paxton, Devry, and Giese for the longest time till Alex Lavoie revived the Lavoie clan and overtook the Paxton for their spot.
While it could have just as easily been the Devry that was bumped to fourth it caused them to decide to debate their status and prepare for the future. Kaleigh was born to the main house the daughter of the clan head, He had two children both girls Katia and Kaleigh. It would be one of them that would inherit the clan if they passed their leadership test. Her father's siblings for various reasons either by failed leadership test or other causes were unable to join the succession. Leaving one of the girls or their cousin Melinda as the future choices.
A Falling Star...
Melinda seemed a bit timid and Katia seemed to hold no interest even though she was the shining star of the family. With a unique specialization controlling dreams she was more interested in humans than witches and disapproved of many things in their society. It didn't stop their parents from promising her to marry Alex Lavoie believing it would make their clan stronger. Kat passed her test and a miscarriage drove her apart from Alex. She walked away to live on Earth only coming to visit.
With Katia gone most turned their hopes to Kaleigh fearing that if they weren't careful they would be absorbed into another clan. Kaleigh's who always felt like the lesser witch compared to her sister could control light and seemed to excel in seduction magic a rather useless talent when it came to defending her clan or so she believed. It became clear that either Alex the head of the Lavoie or Kieran, the acting Giese head in his father's illness would become the next king of witches.
A title that is earned by reaching a certain power level and having enough support. Alex represented the new ways moving away from tradition having been born on Earth and only learning of his magic at twelve when his family was killed. Kieran was a Giese a member of the oldest clan known to have not divided, or been regrouped through the eons. They were about the old ways and the Devry's stood in the middle many wondering which side they would pick as her father seemed to get weaker many wondered how much long he would remain clan head.
A Bright New Path...
Kaleigh and Katia had grown up with Kieran and his brother Keir being close to the same age but Kat had been promised to marry Alex. The Devry's weren't so old world a fact that was true of the younger generation even more so. It seemed anyone's guess. However, it would be around this time that it was found out that Kaleigh had a different path as the high priestess of Aine. Kie kidnapped her believing that the Giese should protect her but Katia freed her sister and made her displeasure known.
It would be the Devry patron God Sindri that would swoop in and take over her training. She was promised to him and was taken to his island to learn about her connection to Aine, however, she still wanted to lead her clan. So, she took her test and failed. Sindri rigging the test a fact she was not aware of but not knowing devastated Kaleigh believing she couldn't help her people.
The desire to help people never left her even if she believed she would never lead. Trying to find ways to help she ended up getting involved with abused slaves. Realizing some broke the laws about how to treat them she began to help them. Creating outreaches and from there she began to travel realizing that many places had problems disasters would hit and it would be a mess. So, after talking with her sister they started taking notes from Earth and created response programs. The Devry becoming known for such things. Still she saw herself as nothing but a voice missing the leader she truly was because of a test.
Love Takes Flight...
It was this among other things that caused her to end up crossing the border of the human kingdom of Adrealia. Magical beings are not allowed but she knew she could help those who needed it. If by no other means than healing magic to the poor. It would be during one of these trips that she would meet Alaric. The elite was charged with protecting his people against those who were not human and he took that role very seriously. However, he didn't try to kill her for being there just told her to leave. He was hurt though he denied it she followed after him refusing to leave in time he passed out from his wounds and Kaleigh took care of him much to his annoyance.
It was the start of a very beautiful, yet complicated relationship. Time and time again the two of them would cross paths and yet he would never hurt her despite the law. She liked to think he knew she meant well and slowly they began to fall for each other. Having something of a relationship even though he claimed it was wrong and declared he had no feelings for her. She knew the truth and in time she knew he would see it to. They were perfect for each other.
Sindri's dead wife being brought back put a hold on her marriage to him. Unsure that it would even happen she continued on her own path. Many things happened like Kieran's father's coming back and becoming king naming Alex Lavoie as his second and making his son the patron God of the Giese Clan. Her father died and much to everyone's surprise Katia accepted the role and took his place having returned after falling for a red dragon named Kallai and having a child.
So, she returned to see Alaric again and this time she was determined to get him to talk to her. If not for herself than for the world his sister Isolda had became a fae, the winter queen making him her knight and king of the fall court. But, he refused the title saying he was needed as an elite. She went to talk to him and during that time he admitted his feelings for her saying he wasn't mad that she was a witch but that she would always belong to her Goddess. So, she offered to make him her high priest and protector and he agreed to take his role as King of the Autumn Court if she agreed to be his queen. When she pointed out no such thing existed he said they would make it so.
So, they told the fairy king of their wishes and he agreed stating that it was time to revamp the courts for the changing times. For the first time she found somewhere that she believes she belongs. It was also clear that he saw her as a leader despite her failings. She doesn't get this but she trusts Alaric and believes in him. Some might say they are taking on too much but she doesn't care because no matter what they will face the future together and thus they cannot fail.
